OBJECTIVE: Through my freelance business I draw on my experiences as a multi-disabled
individual for my columns to help and inspire people with disabilities. I also plan on bringing
awareness of many disability issues to society.
QUALIFICATIONS: I have excellent research and communication skills. I am very goal oriented
always looking for new ventures. More importantly, I am an advocate fighting for the rights
of the disabled.
EDUCATION: 1991-1996 Bachelors in Social Work, Madonna University.
EMPLOYMENT:
2005- present: Columnist, Carrie Writes is a weekly column which discusses a wide variety of
disability issues in the Springfield Republican.
2006 – present: Motivational Speaker. I have given presentations to various groups serving
different segments of the disabled population.
2000 - 2005: Columnist, Carrie Writes. My online column ran monthly at the Ebility website and
discussed my personal experiences with my disabilities.
2002- 2004: Columnist, Disability Talks was a monthly column discussing a wide variety of
disability issues in the Observer and Eccentric newspapers.
2003 - 2004: Owner of Disability Chatter a yahoo group for people with disabilities.
2001- 2003: Chat moderator, Hearing Exchange. I moderated a chat on Monday nights on the
social aspects of hearing loss.
1997 - 2005: Short hour customer service rep, Parisian. Performed credit repair, service desk
and mail room duties.
1996-1997: Paraprofessional, Livonia Public Schools. Worked in a variety of special education
classrooms. Did community intervention and life skill teaching.
